I'm a painter, body worker, collector of natural objects, creator of textiles and owner of eclectic jewelry business Wabi-Sabi Moon. I find inspiration in bold Abstract Expressionism, and Japanese aesthetics and ink painting. But it was the human figure that inspired me most at a very young age, which was likely influenced by the exposure to my father's Playboy magazines, my mothers sewing pattern books, and my sister's Cosmopolitan magazines of 1960's & 70's fashion models. My sketchbooks filled with dynamic drawings of the human figure that ranged from prude to fashionable, and erotic to medically illustrative. I wanted to examine and translate the human body inside and out. It wasn't long after that I purchased and studied Grey's anatomy, The Anatomy Coloring Book, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, and Seventeen magazines during my teen years. There I learned about detail and refined rendering, a deeper understanding of the human body and psyche, and yes, an impeccable taste for jewelry, shoes and clothing. This process paved the way to a formal education at the University of Texas in Austin. It was my time for examining the world and my inner passions. My first experience with drawing the human figure in college was most exhilarating and provocative. Watching the models change positions like animated mannequins was a beautiful sight to interpret in charcoal and India ink. The quick expression of brushstrokes, washes, and smudges became my personal signature early in my art career and capturing the human body in archetypal beloved themes. I challenge the strength of my imagination daily as a Mother, Artist, and Massage Therapist. They are the archetypes of my life. It is what connects me to that feeling of awe.
